Wellness Wednesday – Volume 4 – Week 4

Happy National Compliment Day, you amazing, beautiful, intelligent creature! For this Wellness Wednesday, we’re going to talk about the power of a compliment and how big of a difference a few small words can make for us.

A compliment has a powerful effect. It can instill confidence in us, or validate all that hard work we’ve been doing. A compliment not only improves the receiver’s mood, but it also says something about the giver. It tells them that they’re noticed. Whether we recognize someone’s achievement or their personal style, a compliment goes a long way.

Just remember that to give a great compliment, you must first be sincere. People have a way of knowing when we’re being less than truthful with our compliments. So basically if you don’t mean it, it could be worse than getting a thoughtless birthday gift. In other words, don’t fake it. Find something that you truly think is great about someone and let them know.

Also keep in mind that complimenting character versus a new haircut will provide different rewards for the receiver. The first says you respect the person and the other tells them you paid attention. Sometimes the receiver needs to hear one or the other, or both. Human beings like to be unique and noticed. Today’s the day where we should try to make a conscious effort to identify what makes a person stand out above the rest, and tell them why that’s important.

Let’s celebrate this Wellness Wednesday by making someone smile. It won’t cost you anything and you could potentially change someone’s entire day for the better.

Wellness Wednesday – Volume 4 – Week 3

For this week’s Wellness Wednesday, motivation is the topic.  Since it is a new year, many of us are feeling a sense of having a fresh start.  Many of us have thought about and/or made resolutions to somehow improve ourselves or our situations for the upcoming year.  It is typical and completely normal that motivation levels are higher at this particular time of year more so than any other.  Attached is a link that discusses motivation:  what it is, staying motivated, common misconceptions, etc.  Please read through the article to see if you can identify with any of its principles.  In the words of my father (that he often said when we had to do something), “Let’s motivate!”
